Hey everyone! 20/12/2023 marked the end of our year. I want to share the highlights:
We had a whopping 8 teams playing across 5 different divisions, with over 40 players involved in the SNDTTA competition. We had a solid 60 active players and more important. We had fun and a very vibrant and friendly environment.
New players joined the club, and we tried to make some new arrangements in the old hall adding an extra table and buying shiny lights. But guess what? The place got too small with everyone showing up, so we made a move.
We had a professional shirt for our club with the club’s name and vibrant colours.
Now, we’re rocking a new spot with room for 11 tables – or more. We tried different combinations but for me, the 5 or 6 tables parallel to the stage, 2 below with a low ceiling, and 3 behind the 6 tables, perpendicular to the stage were the best in my opinion.
We got 4 new tables, 1 brand new and 3 second-hand. I am thinking about getting 1 or 2 more to swap out the bubbly one. That table is good for training and social but not good for competition. I marked it with a stick but I will make it more evident.
Replaced all the scoreboards with new numbers and bought another one to replace the broken one. We might need to buy 2 more for the competition.
I bought new nets and posts. They are still in the box, though. The idea is to replace the dodgy ones. I have to spend some time to check which one needs to be replaced.
Got us a ball picker for multiball, training, etc.
Bought a trolley cart to keep things organized – nets, balls, scoreboards, etc.
Threw an awesome lunch party with a solid turnout and killer vibes.
We still have some challenges for next year. The floor becomes very slippery on super humid days. My plan? Slam the door shut, crank up the heat, and let the AC do its thing until the floor dries up. Hopefully, that works. If you have any suggestions, please let us know.
Huge thanks to everyone who made it this year and helped us move to this cool new spot. And shoutout to those who generously donated serious cash to the club – you rock!
Big ups to Table Tennis Australia for the grant. I wasn’t expecting it as we got a grant 2 years ago, but they saw our club’s growth and tossed us $1000. Not a fortune, but enough for 2 (second-hand) more tables.
Closing out the year on a high note, and here’s to an even better one ahead! Catch you later everybody!
